Jong Hoorn Kleurt de Stad

Today I get to show a different side of myself - the creative, artsy part that doesn’t always show up on LinkedIn. 🎨
A little while ago I came across a call for ideas from Voor Een Mooie Stad - a foundation created by Hoorn residents to bring local ideas to life (Supported by Gemeente Hoorn). I figured… why not give it a shot?
To my surprise and delight, they invited me to present my idea: Jong Hoorn Kleurt de Stad.
A concept that brings street art, young talent and city beautification together to make Hoorn feel more vibrant, more connected, and more “ours.” ✨
On Friday, we met at Hoorn Heeft Ze, a community art/exhibition initiative, where I walked in with my presentation - and a whole lot of excitement. Even better news: they loved the ideas and want to move forward with it!
Whether this becomes something small or something big, I’m already proud. Proud that I stepped forward with an idea that blends creativity, community and ownership. And honestly, it felt amazing to show this side of myself.
As a South African building a life in the Netherlands, being able to take part in local community initiatives is a milestone I don’t take lightly. And another win - doing it all in Dutch (this had me extremely nervous)!
So now I’m curious: Outside of your full-time job, what secret talents are you hiding? 😊
