From South Africa to the Netherlands – Meet Your Recruiter✨

I’m Glicinda, in my twenties, an animal lover, a stroopwafel addict, and a BCom HR Management student. Born and raised in South Africa, I now call the Netherlands home, where I live with my husband and work as an International Recruiter at Ir Olav's Globetrotters.
If I’m not working, you’ll probably find me exploring some part of the Netherlands with my husband, having a braai with friends, or indulging in way too many stroopwafels. (Seriously, why are they SO good?! 😍)
But our journey to the Netherlands wasn’t always the plan…

✈️ Our Immigration Story
Back in 2022, my husband was approached about a job opportunity in the Netherlands. We went through all the calls and meetings, but I was completely against it. The idea of leaving behind our family, friends, and our beloved dog, along everything we've built up over the years, was too much.
Fast forward to the end of 2023, on what was supposed to be a peaceful Friday night. Loadshedding hit at 20:00, and we went to bed early - only for the night to turn into one of the scariest moments of my life. Shortly after, we left the house we were staying in and moved into a security complex with hopes of safety. As I was praying for a sign about whether immigration was the right choice, two break-ins happened in one week, making even the security complex a little bit less secure. That was my answer, the sign I’ve been looking for.
In May 2024, my husband got on his flight to the Netherlands, and I followed shortly after in the beginning of June. Saying goodbye was heart-wrenching - I didn’t even know I could cry that much. But looking back now, I don’t regret it for a second. If anything, I wish we had made the move sooner!

Immigration is tough.
It will test you and push you beyond your comfort zone. But it will also build you into someone stronger than you ever imagined. You’ll discover parts of yourself that you never knew existed (the good ones!).
Life in the Netherlands?
It’s safe, stable, and filled with opportunity. An amazing place to live and work, and raise children. And on top of it all - I get to work for an amazing company that truly values their staff, with a supportive team that has made this transition so much easier.

Now, I get to help others take their own leap.
