Software Engineer - Industrial Automation

You’ve already built up a few years of experience as a Software Engineer and have a clear passion for industrial automation. At our client, you’ll take on a versatile role—working on capacity expansions, new builds, system upgrades, and troubleshooting when issues arise. Your mission? To optimize production processes across both food and non-food sectors, including automotive, food processing, machine manufacturing (both low- and high-tech), offshore, and horticulture.

Every project is unique. One day, you're contributing to the production lines of turbochargers for high-performance brands like McLaren, BMW, and Volkswagen. Next, you're helping global players in the food industry—like Elopak, a leading provider of liquid food packaging, or Marel, a world-renowned supplier of advanced systems for poultry, meat, and fish processing. Besides the drive to make yourself and the organisation better, we believe that you can best perform the job of Software Engineer Industrial Automation if you have:

• A completed tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Control and Automation, Mechatronics, or equivalent in a related field.

• Minimum of 2 years work experience as a Software Engineer in Industrial Automation.

• Experience in PLC, HMI, and Motion programming with Mitsubishi (iQ Works), B&R (Automation Studio), or Siemens (TIA Portal) is preferred.

• You are flexible. You’re away from home for a longer period regularly, or the client asks you to stay a bit longer: you don't mind!

• You have your own projects and can advise and operate independently in these.

• Knowledge of relevant standards, such as the machine directive and machine safety.

• Your heart beats faster when thinking of mechatronics and industrial automation, preferably with motion, robotics, and vision.

• Share your experience, knowledge, and insights. We would love to hear them! We not only optimise with others, but we also like to optimise ourselves.

• Communications (CC-Link, SSCNETIII/H, Profinet, OPC UA, Profibus, Modbus, Powerlink).

• Affinity with programming languages such as C, C++, C#, and SQL.

• Good communication skills in both Afrikaans and English
