Pre-Sales Consultant
This role
You understand fruit production and what growers deal with throughout the season. You also enjoy exploring how technology can make their work more effective.
In this role, you will take responsibility for developing the fruit sector within a Dutch agricultural technology company. The focus is on apples and pears, with opportunities in other fruit crops, including peaches and apricots.
You will work directly with growers, dealers and advisers, helping them understand, implement and get the most out of precision spraying technology. From the first conversation and orchard demonstration to product setup and ongoing support, you will connect practical fruit-growing knowledge with what the technology can offer.
You will be responsible for:
Taking ownership of the fruit sector, developing customer relationships and identifying opportunities to grow this part of the business.
Following up on leads generated by marketing and guiding potential customers through the sales process.
Visiting growers and understanding their production practices, spraying requirements and day-to-day challenges.
Demonstrating the technology and explaining its practical value for the grower.
Supporting product and software setup, helping users get started and providing ongoing aftercare.
Building relationships with dealers and advisers, acting as a link between them, the end user and the technical team.
Translating questions and feedback from the orchard into clear requirements for technical colleagues, including developers in South Africa.
Working with international customers and partners, including markets such as Poland, Hungary and Romania.
You will have considerable freedom to organise your work, together with the responsibility to take initiative and follow things through.
Company profile
Our client is a Dutch agricultural technology company, developing precision spraying solutions for agriculture and fruit production.
Its technology combines electronics, software, and data to control spraying at the individual nozzle level. Solutions can be integrated into existing sprayers or supplied through machinery partners, helping growers apply crop protection products more precisely and reduce unnecessary use.
You will join an international team with developers in Pretoria and colleagues working across different markets. The team comes together in the Netherlands twice a year.
Function criteria
Practical experience in fruit production, orchard management, fruit-sector advisory work or a closely related role with direct grower involvement.
A sound understanding of orchard operations, seasonal challenges and crop protection practices. Experience with apples and pears is particularly relevant.
A clear interest in technology, data, electronics and software, with the ability to learn new systems and use them confidently.
Enough technical understanding to ask the right questions, investigate a problem and explain a solution in terms that make sense to a grower. Programming skills are not required.
Commercial aptitude and the confidence to lead customer conversations, demonstrate a product and follow up on opportunities.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build credibility with growers, dealers, advisers and technical colleagues.
An analytical, practical approach: you can identify what is needed and take the next steps towards a workable solution.
An independent and entrepreneurial working style, supported by concrete examples of taking initiative, accepting responsibility and delivering results.
Comfortable presenting your ideas, making yourself heard and taking ownership of your area.
Willingness to travel for grower visits, demonstrations and international collaboration.
Your knowledge of fruit production is the starting point. You do not need to arrive as an expert in the company’s technology, but you must be motivated and able to learn it.
The preference is for someone who wants to relocate to the Netherlands. A remote arrangement from South Africa may also be considered.
