Test Specialist Mainframe

We are looking for an experienced Senior Cobol Test Specialist to join one of the Netherlands’ leading public sector organizations. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Mainframe environments who wants to apply their expertise in a collaborative and forward-thinking setting.

As a test specialist, you will be responsible for designing, writing and executing system test plans and scripts for Cobol applications. You will work closely with software developers, product owners and users to ensure that all requirements are met and that product quality remains consistently high. Your daily work will include defining acceptance criteria, advising on test strategy, identifying product risks early in the process, and ensuring continuous improvement across testing practices. You will also automate backend testing processes using tools such as Robot Framework, report on progress and bottlenecks, and contribute to improving the team’s testing maturity by coaching and sharing best practices.

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe (COBOL) and DB2 environments.

• Solid SQL skills in complex systems.

• TMap or ISTQB Foundation certification.

• Knowledge of Agile and modern testing methodologies.

• Experience with test automation frameworks (Robot Framework preferred).

• Strong analytical thinking, creativity, and communication skills.

• Excellent English proficiency (Dutch not required).
